On Dangerous Ground

Jim Wilson is a big-city detective whose anger and violent methods have made him a problem for his superiors. To get him out of the way for a while, they send him to a remote mountain region to help with a murder investigation. There he joins a manhunt for a suspect, and meets the fugitive's sister, Mary Malden, a blind woman living alone. His encounters with her and with the victim's vengeful father unsettle him and push him toward a change he did not expect.

Nicholas Ray directed the film, which followed In a Lonely Place (1950) in his career. A. I. Bezzerides wrote the screenplay, John Houseman produced it for RKO Radio Pictures, and Bernard Herrmann composed the score. Robert Ryan plays Jim Wilson, Ida Lupino plays Mary Malden, and Ward Bond, Charles Kemper, Anthony Ross and Ed Begley are among the credited cast of 29. The film runs 82 minutes.

The film received a film critics' rating of 8.5 out of 10 from 19 reviews, which is higher than its audience scores: 7.2 out of 10 on IMDb from around 9,100 votes and 6.6 out of 10 on TMDB from a much smaller number of votes.
