The Horror of Frankenstein
Short description
A young medical student named Victor Frankenstein pursues his own experiments in reviving dead tissue, first with animals and then with human remains. His ambition drives him to assemble a body from parts obtained through illicit means, and his obsession with completing his creation leads him to commit murder. When the creature finally stirs, it escapes into the night, bringing danger to those around him.
The Horror of Frankenstein is a British horror and science fiction film produced by EMI Films and Hammer Film Productions, directed by Jimmy Sangster from a screenplay he wrote with Jeremy Burnham. Sangster also produced. The film was his first directing credit, followed by Lust for a Vampire in 1971. Ralph Bates plays Victor Frankenstein, with Kate O'Mara, Veronica Carlson, Dennis Price, David Prowse as the Monster and Jon Finch among the credited cast of twenty-one.
The film was released in 1970 and runs 95 minutes. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.8 from around 3,300 votes, while on TMDB its rating is 5.9 from a much smaller number of 92 votes. A critics' rating of 5.5 from 15 reviews places it close to both audience scores.

- When the monster first leaves the castle, he rips the door lock off. Shortly afterwards, the lock is back in place.

- This film is not related to the six-film series produced by Hammer Studios about Frankenstein, starring Peter Cushing as Dr. Frankenstein. It is essentially a remake of "The Curse of Frankenstein" (1957).
- The screenwriter, producer, and director, Jimmy Sangster, was initially invited to the project simply to review the original script by Jeremy Burnham and make changes if necessary. After reading the script, Sangster realized it was very similar to the screenplay for 'The Curse of Frankenstein' (1957), which he himself had written. Not wanting to film the same movie twice, he decided to add humor and sex to the script. Ultimately, Hammer Studios agreed to let him direct the project.
