Breakout

Nick Colton is a bush pilot who takes on a job that few would consider possible: getting an American businessman out of a Mexican prison. Jay Wagner has been convicted of murder and sentenced to a long term, though the charge is the result of a scheme involving his own grandfather. Wagner's wife hires Colton to bring her husband home, and after an initial attempt fails, the pilot becomes convinced someone has been informing on the operation. From then on he works away from prying eyes, and the rescue turns into a drawn-out contest of nerve and improvisation.

Tom Gries directed the film, which followed Breakheart Pass on his filmography and was released in 1975. Charles Bronson plays Colton, with Robert Duvall as Wagner, Jill Ireland as Ann Wagner, Randy Quaid as Hawk Hawkins, Sheree North as Myrna and John Huston as Harris Wagner. The screenplay is credited to Marc Norman, Howard B. Kreitsek and Elliott Baker, and Irwin Winkler and Robert Chartoff produced for Columbia Pictures.

Made for about a million dollars, the film returned roughly sixteen million worldwide, a strong result in relation to its cost. On IMDb it holds a 6.1 rating from around 5,200 votes and on TMDB a 6.3 from a much smaller number of votes, while the critics' score stands at 5.8 from fourteen reviews, placing it a little below the audience averages.
