Murder!

A young actress, Diana Baring, is discovered in a confused state next to the body of a fellow performer, and the evidence at hand points to her as the killer. She stands trial for the murder, and the jury convicts her. One juror, the actor Sir John Menier, has doubts about the verdict but gives in to the pressure of the others. Troubled by what he has done, he sets out on his own to find out what really happened.

Alfred Hitchcock directed the film, the fifth of the forty-three features listed in his directing career, following Blackmail and preceding The Man Who Knew Too Much. It was produced by John Maxwell for British International Pictures. Herbert Marshall plays Sir John Menier. Norah Baring appears as Diana Baring, with Edward Chapman, Esme Percy, Phyllis Konstam and Marie Wright among the twenty-nine credited cast members.

The film was released in July 1930 and runs 102 minutes. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.3 from around 7,800 votes, while on TMDB it has a 5.9 from 158 votes, putting the two audience measures in a similar range. A critics' rating of 7.3 from eighteen reviews sits noticeably higher than either audience figure.
