Soldier's Girl

Based on a true story, Soldier's Girl centers on Barry Winchell, a young soldier stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, who begins a relationship with Calpernia Addams, a transgender performer at a Nashville nightclub. When the other soldiers in his unit learn about the relationship, their hostility and harassment escalate, placing Barry in increasing danger.

Frank Pierson directed the film, which followed his work on Conspiracy and came before Paradise in his filmography. Ron Nyswaner wrote the screenplay, and Linda Gottlieb and Doro Bachrach produced. Troy Garity plays Barry Winchell, while Lee Pace appears as Calpernia Addams and Scottie. Andre Braugher, Shawn Hatosy, Philip Eddolls and Merwin Mondesir are also in the cast, which numbers 22 credited performers. Running 112 minutes, the television film blends crime, drama and romance.
