Horror Express

Horror Express begins in 1906, when British anthropologist Alexander Saxton unearths a frozen humanoid creature in Manchuria and arranges to carry it back to Europe aboard the Trans-Siberian Express. The crate draws suspicion even before the train departs, and once it is underway the fossil proves not to be as lifeless as it appeared. Deaths begin among the passengers, and it emerges that the creature is not an earthly being at all.

Eugenio Martín directed, from a screenplay by Julian Zimet and Arnaud d'Usseau, produced by Bernard Gordon. It was the second of the two films directed by Martín listed here, following Bad Man's River the previous year. Christopher Lee plays Saxton and Peter Cushing plays his rival Dr. Wells, with Telly Savalas as Captain Kazan, Alberto de Mendoza as Father Pujardov, Silvia Tortosa as Countess Irina Petrovska and Julio Peña as Inspector Mirov, among a credited cast of 25 and a crew of 43. A British-Spanish co-production, it runs 87 minutes.

On IMDb it holds 6.5 out of 10 from around 14,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.3 out of 10 from about 350 votes. A critics' rating of 7 out of 10 from 15 reviews places it somewhat above the audience scores. The vote counts point to a wider and more enduring audience than its modest theatrical origins would suggest.
