Catchfire

Anne Benton, a conceptual artist, happens to witness a mob killing and goes to the police, only to find the criminals have ties to the authorities as well. She abandons her old life and moves from place to place under new identities, while the hitman Milo is sent to track her down. As he studies her life in detail, Milo's attitude toward his target shifts, and he becomes personally involved with the woman he was hired to kill, putting them both on the run from the mob and the FBI.

Dennis Hopper directed the film, which followed his Easy Rider, Colors and The Hot Spot and preceded Chasers in his filmography. Hopper also plays Milo, with Jodie Foster as Anne Benton, alongside Dean Stockwell, Vincent Price, John Turturro and Fred Ward. Rachel Kronstadt Mann and Ann Louise Bardach wrote the screenplay, and Dan Paulson and Dick Clark produced. It runs 116 minutes and blends action, drama, romance and thriller.

Released in April 1990, the film drew little enthusiasm: on IMDb it holds 5.3 out of 10 from about 5,200 votes, with a similar 5.3 from roughly 120 votes on TMDB, so audiences and a small group of critics, who gave it 5 out of 10 across 10 reviews, were largely in agreement about its modest reception.
