Solomon Kane

Solomon Kane is a 16th-century English soldier whose years of plundering and killing have left his soul damned. After a demonic encounter convinces him that hell awaits, he renounces violence and tries to live peacefully. That resolve is tested when he is taken in by a Puritan family, the Crowthorns, only for the sorcerer Malachi and his followers to attack them and abduct their daughter, Meredith. Kane sets out to rescue her, weighing his promise of peace against the evil he must confront.

The film is based on the pulp character created by Robert E. Howard, the writer behind Conan. M.J. Bassett directed and wrote the screenplay, following her debut Deathwatch and preceding Silent Hill: Revelation 3D in her filmography. James Purefoy plays Kane, with Pete Postlethwaite and Alice Krige as the Crowthorn parents, Max von Sydow as Josiah Kane, Mackenzie Crook as Father Michael and Jason Flemyng as Malachi. Produced across the United Kingdom, the United States, France and the Czech Republic, it cost about 45 million dollars and returned roughly 20 million worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.1/10 from around 80,000 votes, on TMDB 6/10 from a much smaller base of 1,585, and it earned 6.1/10 from 47 critics.
