Short description

A nomadic 16th century warrior, condemned to hell for his brutal past, seeks redemption by renouncing violence, but finds some things are worth burning for as he fights to free a young Puritan woman from the grip of evil.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Filming began in Prague at the end of February 2008.
  • It took up to 7 hours to apply the Ghoul makeup.
  • The images of the Witch and the Reaper were created using silicone prosthetics.
  • For each Gulya, specialists created individual dental appliances and lenses. The makeup was created using foam latex and pax paint. It was durable and could withstand over 15 hours of filming. Since the actors' entire bodies were made up, many of them refused to wash it off, explaining that they had to film again the next day.
  • During filming, the lead actor James Purefoy received a deep cut on his forehead and had to get stitches. After shooting close-ups, the scar had to be removed from the frame using computer technology.
