Short description

This powerful anti-war film statement focuses on the plight of a German unit in World War I that finds itself surrounded by British and French forces.

What's left behind the scenes

The film currently exists in two versions: one with nationalist slogans and scenes cut (half an hour shorter) and the original version for the USA.
In its time, the film was a major box office hit, seen by millions of viewers.
The original film stock was lost during the war. The movie was reconstructed with the help of the federal film archive and private collectors.
