Rock Dog

Rock Dog follows Bodi, a Tibetan Mastiff who is expected to guard his mountain village's sheep from a pack of wolves, just as his father Khampa does. Bodi would rather make music, and when a radio falls into his paws, he takes it as a sign to leave home for the city and pursue his dream of becoming a rock musician. There he hopes to learn from Angus Scattergood, a reclusive feline rock star, while the wolves and his father's disapproval remain part of the story.

The film is an animated comedy directed by Ash Brannon, his second feature after 2007's Surf's Up, from a screenplay he wrote with Kurt Voelker. Luke Wilson voices Bodi, with Eddie Izzard as Angus, J.K. Simmons as Khampa, Lewis Black as Linnux, Kenan Thompson as Riff and Mae Whitman as Darma. It was produced by Zheng Jun, Amber Wang and Joyce Lou, and made by companies in China and the United States, including Reel FX Creative Studios and Huayi Brothers Pictures.

Rock Dog cost about 60 million dollars and took roughly 23 million dollars worldwide, a large shortfall against its budget. On IMDb it holds 6 out of 10 from around 6,500 votes, and on TMDB 6.3 out of 10 from roughly 329 votes, while a critics' score of 5.3 out of 10 from 55 reviews places it below those audience figures.
