Short description

Bud Abbott and Lou Costello Meet the Invisible Man is a 1951 comedy from Universal Pictures in which the comedy duo play Bud Alexander and Lou Francis, two fresh graduates of a private detective school. Their first client is Tommy Nelson, a boxer who has escaped from prison after being charged with killing his manager, a crime he insists he did not commit. Tommy wants his girlfriend's uncle, Dr. Philip Gray, to give him an invisibility serum so he can move around unseen and track down the real culprit. The doctor considers the formula too unstable, but events force the issue, and the pair soon find themselves chasing a killer through the boxing world while an unseen ally trails them.

Charles Lamont directed the film, working from a screenplay by John Grant, Robert Lees and Frederic I. Rinaldo, with Howard Christie producing. It sits between Lamont's Playing the Ponies and his later Abbott and Costello Meet Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde in his directing work with the team. Nancy Guild, Arthur Franz, Adele Jergens and Sheldon Leonard round out a credited cast of 66.

Audience response has been steady rather than rapturous: on IMDb the film holds 6.6/10 from around 6,700 votes and on TMDB 6.3/10 from about 120 votes, while a small sample of 10 critics' reviews gives it 6/10.
