Monster High: The Movie

Clawdeen Wolf, who is half human and half werewolf, has just enrolled at Monster High, a school where monsters of every kind study together. She quickly becomes friends with classmates Frankie Stein and Draculaura and begins to feel she has found a place where she can be herself, even though she keeps her human half hidden. That sense of belonging is threatened when a scheme to bring down the school risks exposing who she really is, forcing her to accept her monster side and act to protect her new home.

The film is directed by Todd Holland, whose earlier credits include The Wizard, Firehouse Dog and Fugly. It comes before his return to the same characters in Monster High 2. Miia Harris plays Clawdeen, with Ceci Balagot as Frankie Stein, Nayah Damasen as Draculaura, Jy Prishkulnik as Cleo De Nile, Case Walker as Deuce Gorgon and Justin Derickson as Heath Burns. It was produced by Lighthouse Pictures, Brightlight Pictures, Nickelodeon Productions and Mattel on a budget of about 1 million US dollars, and runs 92 minutes.

Reception has been mixed and split by audience. On IMDb it holds 5.1 out of 10 from roughly 4,100 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.7 out of 10 from 312 votes. The small budget and the narrow gap between those audience scores suggest a title aimed mainly at younger viewers and fans of the toy line rather than a broad family audience.
