A mistreated beagle escapes from his owner and follows a boy named Marty Preston home. Marty names the dog Shiloh and grows attached to him, but his father insists the animal must go back to Judd Travers, a local hunter who treats his dogs harshly. When Shiloh runs away again and returns to Marty, the boy hides him in an old shed on the hill above the family's house rather than hand him back. The arrangement cannot stay secret forever, and a nighttime attack by a stray forces Marty to seek his father's help.
Shiloh is a 1996 American family drama directed by Chip Rosenbloom, who also wrote the screenplay and produced with Zane W. Levitt. It was his first time in the director's chair. The cast is led by Blake Heron as Marty and Scott Wilson as Judd Travers, with Ann Dowd as Marty's mother, Bonnie Bartlett and Rod Steiger as the Wallaces, and J. Madison Wright as their daughter Sam.
The film draws modest but measurable attention on TMDB, where it holds a rating of 5.8 from 76 votes, suggesting a small, largely nostalgic audience rather than a broad one. Running 93 minutes, it was made by independent companies Zeta Entertainment, Good Dog Productions and Utopia Pictures.
