Scared Stiff is a 1953 American comedy with horror and musical elements. Two nightclub performers, singer Larry Todd and his bumbling friend Myron Mertz, run into trouble with a gangster and leave the country. They set off for Cuba alongside Mary Carroll, a wealthy young woman who has inherited a castle on a remote island. Once there, the group searches for treasure hidden in the castle and finds itself dealing with supernatural figures, including a ghost and a zombie.
The film was directed by George Marshall, the sixth of thirteen films he directed in chronological order, following Tap Roots and preceding Houdini. Walter DeLeon and Herbert Baker wrote the screenplay, and Hal B. Wallis produced it for Paramount and Wallis-Hazen Inc. Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis star as Larry and Myron, with Lizabeth Scott as Mary, Carmen Miranda as Carmelita Castinha, George Dolenz as Mr. Cortega and Dorothy Malone as Rosie. The credited cast runs to 59 names.
The film runs 108 minutes. On TMDB it holds a rating of 6.5 out of 10 from 44 votes, a modest figure based on a small number of responses. It belongs to the run of Martin and Lewis comedies and treats the haunted-house material as parody.
