Lucy in the Sky

Lucy Cola is an astronaut who returns from a space mission changed by the experience. Back on Earth, ordinary life, including her marriage to Drew, feels diminished and distant, and she struggles to reconnect with the world around her. Determined to fly again, she throws herself into training for a future NASA mission, while her growing bond with a fellow astronaut, Mark Goodwin, pulls her further from her old life. The film is a drama with thriller elements, following a woman whose pursuit of the intensity she found in orbit pushes her toward increasingly risky behavior.

Noah Hawley directed and co-wrote the film with Brian C. Brown and Elliott DiGuiseppi. It was produced by Reese Witherspoon, John Cameron and Bruna Papandrea, and stars Natalie Portman as Lucy, alongside Jon Hamm, Zazie Beetz, Dan Stevens, Ellen Burstyn and Colman Domingo. Made for a budget of 27 million US dollars, it was released in September 2019 and runs 125 minutes. It was the first feature Hawley directed after establishing himself in television.
