Godzilla

An American reporter investigates a series of disasters on the Japanese coast and encounters a prehistoric creature capable of destroying Tokyo. As the city lies in ruins, the story follows the efforts to defeat the monster through the work of Professor Serizawa.

This 1977 production is a re-edited, Italian-dubbed version based on the 1956 American film Godzilla, King of the Monsters!. It integrates footage from the 1954 original and the 1956 US version with newsreel clips from World War II and scenes from other 1950s monster movies. The black and white imagery was colorized using a process called Spectrorama 70, which applied colored gels to the film. New music for the opening and ending was composed by Vince Tempera, as well as Fabio Frizzi and Franco Bixio, under the name Magnetic System.

The film was directed by Ishirō Honda, Terry O. Morse, and Luigi Cozzi. For Honda, this was the 24th of 25 directed films, following Terror of Mechagodzilla. It was the second film directed by Morse and the first for Cozzi, who later directed Starcrash. The cast features Raymond Burr and Emilio Cigoli as Steve Martin, alongside Akira Takarada and Akihiko Hirata.
