Two vaudeville performers, George Cochran and Harold Gridley, flee Melbourne to escape the attentions of women eager to marry them. They take work as deep-sea divers and end up on an island near Bali, where both men fall for Princess Lala. Their dives bring up a chest of valuable jewels, which draws the interest of the scheming prince Ken Arok and other locals who want the treasure for themselves. The pair keep competing for Lala's attention while dealing with the dangers of the island.
Bing Crosby and Bob Hope star as George and Harold, with Dorothy Lamour as Princess Lala. Murvyn Vye plays Ken Arok, and Peter Coe and Ralph Moody appear as Gung and Bhoma Da. Hal Walker directed the film, his second directing credit in the facts, following Sailor Beware earlier the same year. Frank Butler, William Morrow and Hal Kanter wrote the screenplay, and Harry Tugend and Daniel Dare produced it for Bing Crosby Productions. It runs 91 minutes and mixes adventure, comedy, music and romance.
The film was released in December 1952. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.4 from around 5,500 votes, and on TMDB a rating of 6.2 from 83 votes. Both audience scores sit in similar territory, indicating a modest but enduring following rather than wide acclaim.
