Corey Webster comes to Los Angeles for the summer hoping to make a name for himself as a skateboarder. He falls in with a crew of skaters who would rather chase girls and ride than look for serious trouble, but they cross paths with the Daggers, a rival group led by Tommy Hook that enjoys intimidating people around Venice Beach. The situation turns personal when Corey begins seeing Tommy's younger sister, Chrissy, which enrages the Daggers and pushes the two crews toward a decisive showdown: a dangerous race down a canyon road known as the L.A. Massacre.
Thrashin' was directed by David Winters from a screenplay by Alan Sacks and Paul Brown, with Sacks also producing. Josh Brolin leads the cast as Corey, opposite Robert Rusler as Tommy Hook and Pamela Gidley as Chrissy, with Brooke McCarter, Josh Richman and Brett Marx among the supporting players; 43 cast members are credited in all. The film runs 93 minutes and belongs to the action and drama genres, and it was released in the United States on August 29, 1986.
On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.5 out of 10 from around 5,500 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.3 out of 10 from 77 votes. The two scores sit close together, suggesting a fairly consistent if modest level of appreciation across both audiences.
