What's left behind the scenes

  • Robert Altman (1925-2006) shot a large amount of footage at actual fashion shows in Paris. Altman and screenwriter Barbara Shulgasser then inserted plot lines into the filmed material.
  • Due to a line spoken by a character played by Forest Whitaker, fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld (1933-2019) sued the filmmakers, preventing the film from being released in Germany. The film eventually premiered, but only after the word 'thief' in the line was censored.
  • According to Richard E. Grant, he portrayed British designer Vivienne Westwood to some extent in the role of Kort Romney.
