Short description

A professional thief named Quint is hired by government agents to steal a tape containing evidence of illegal activities. To keep the data safe while transporting it to Los Angeles, he hides the cassette inside a high-performance prototype car called the Black Moon. The situation complicates when the vehicle is stolen by a group of criminals. Quint must then track down the thieves and recover the car and the evidence before a legal deadline.

Directed by Harley Cokeliss, this action thriller followed his 1982 film Battletruck and preceded his 1987 movie Malone. The film features a cast including Tommy Lee Jones, Linda Hamilton, Robert Vaughn, Richard Jaeckel, Lee Ving, and Bubba Smith. It was produced by New World Pictures and Sequoia Pictures, with a screenplay written by John Carpenter, William Gray, and Desmond Nakano.

The movie earned 7 million USD at the worldwide box office. Audience reception on TMDB is mixed, with a rating of 5.5/10 based on 176 votes. This score is higher than the rating from film critics, which stands at 4.4/10 from 15 reviews.

What's left behind the scenes

  • The appearance of the 'Black Moon' was based on the design of a Canadian prototype car called the 'Wingho Concordia II', which was first shown to the general public in 1980. Only one such car was ever built, so the film features an exact replica.
  • Tommy Lee Jones performed a significant portion of his own stunts.
  • Linda Hamilton strongly disliked working with Tommy Lee Jones, who was trying to overcome an alcohol addiction during filming.
  • The stunt driver for the 'Black Moon' could see almost nothing, as he was positioned nearly lying down behind the wheel, and the windshield was made of plexiglass, which reflected everything, further restricting visibility.
