Warlock

Warlock is a Western set in a small cattle town of the same name, where a gang of violent cowboys has made life unbearable for the residents. After the local sheriff is driven out in humiliation, the townspeople hire Clay Blaisedell, a famous gunman, to act as their marshal and restore order. He arrives with his friend Tom Morgan, and before long the two men set up a gambling house and saloon of their own. A former member of the gang, Johnny Gannon, stays in town and takes a job as deputy sheriff, which eventually puts him at odds both with the outlaws and with Blaisedell.

Edward Dmytryk directed and produced the film from a screenplay by Robert Alan Aurthur. It was the fourteenth of the eighteen features Dmytryk directed, following The Young Lions and preceding Mirage. Henry Fonda plays Blaisedell, Richard Widmark plays Gannon, and Anthony Quinn plays Morgan, with Dorothy Malone, Dolores Michaels and Wallace Ford among the credited cast of thirty-nine.

Released by 20th Century Fox in May 1959, the film runs 122 minutes and was made for about two million dollars, taking a similar amount at the worldwide box office. On IMDb it holds a rating of 7.1 from roughly 7,700 votes, and on TMDB 6.8 from about 177 votes.
