What's left behind the scenes

  • The film's plot is based on a Buddhist parable about an old woman who forbade her daughter-in-law from visiting the temple, blocking her path with a demon mask. As punishment, Buddha made the mask stick to the old woman's face.
  • The demon mask in the film inspired William Friedkin, who used its features when creating the female demon in 'The Exorcist' (1973).
