Hush is a horror thriller about Maddie, a writer who lost her hearing as a teenager and now lives alone in an isolated house in the woods. While she works on her second novel, a masked stranger appears at her window and begins to torment her. Cut off from the outside world and unable to call for help, she has to find a way to survive against an intruder who grows crueller once he realises she cannot hear him.
The film was directed by Mike Flanagan, who wrote the screenplay with Kate Siegel, who also stars as Maddie. It was released in 2016, the third of the nine films Flanagan has directed, following Absentia and Oculus, and arriving the same year as Before I Wake and Ouija: Origin of Evil. John Gallagher Jr. plays the man stalking her, with Michael Trucco and Samantha Sloyan in supporting roles. Trevor Macy and Jason Blum produced for Intrepid Pictures and Blumhouse Productions. Made for about one million dollars, the film runs eighty-two minutes.
On TMDB it holds a rating of 6.7 out of ten from nearly five thousand votes, a solid response for a low-budget thriller that centres on a single location and a small cast.
