Raising Arizona

A childless couple in Arizona decide to steal one of the newborn quintuplets born to a wealthy furniture magnate, planning to raise the baby as their own. H.I. is a repeat small-time robber, Ed is the police officer who kept arresting him, and the two married after his latest stretch behind bars. Their life together would be happy except that they cannot have children, which is what pushes them toward taking a baby from a family that has just had five at once. Their plan soon draws in others, including two escaped convicts and a bounty hunter, and the couple find themselves dealing with more than they bargained for while trying to hold on to the child.

Raising Arizona was released in 1987 and runs 94 minutes. It is the second film directed by Joel Coen and Ethan Coen, following Blood Simple in 1985 and preceding Miller's Crossing in 1990; the brothers also wrote the screenplay, and Ethan produced. Nicolas Cage plays H.I. and Holly Hunter plays Ed, with Trey Wilson as Nathan Arizona, Sr., John Goodman as Gale, William Forsythe as Evelle and Sam McMurray as Glen.

Made for about 6 million dollars, the film took roughly 29 million worldwide, a strong return on its budget. On IMDb it holds 7.3 from around 160,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 7.1 from a much smaller base. A critics' rating of 7.9 from 66 reviews places it above both audience scores.
