Tell Your Children

Tell Your Children follows a high-school principal, Dr. Alfred Carroll, who addresses a group of parents about the dangers he believes marijuana poses to their children. To make his point, he recounts the story of Mary and Jimmy Lane, a sister and brother, and Mary's boyfriend Bill, who are drawn by a drug supplier into frequenting a house where marijuana is smoked. Bill and Jimmy gradually take up the drug, and the consequences spread into their families and beyond.

The film was directed by Louis J. Gasnier, whose earlier credits include Faint Perfume (1925) and The Beauty Shoppers (1927); this was the third of the three features listed for him. Arthur Hoerl wrote the screenplay, and George A. Hirliman and Samuel Diege produced it for George A. Hirliman Productions. The cast includes Dorothy Short as Mary, Kenneth Craig as Bill, Lillian Miles as Blanche, Dave O'Brien as Ralph, Thelma White as Mae and Carleton Young as Jack, among thirty-two credited performers. It runs sixty-six minutes.

Released in June 1938 in the United States, the film is a drama. Reception has been weak: on IMDb it holds a rating of 3.7 from roughly 9,900 votes, and on TMDB a rating of 4.4 from a much smaller base of 139 votes. A critics' rating of 4.6 from twenty-eight reviews places it slightly above the audience scores, though all three measures sit in the lower range.
