The Curse of the Mummy's Tomb

A team of archaeologists excavating in Egypt uncovers the tomb of Ra-Antef, an ancient ruler, along with his mummified remains. An American showman, Alexander King, who financed the expedition, ignores warnings from those around him and arranges for the sarcophagus to be shipped to England and put on public display. When the exhibit opens, the coffin is found empty, and the expedition members begin to die one by one, apparently the work of the mummy taking revenge on those who disturbed its rest.

The film was directed, written and produced by Michael Carreras for Hammer Film Productions, and it was released in 1964. It followed his earlier directing work on The Savage Guns and Maniac, and it came before Blood from the Mummy's Tomb and Shatter in the group of five features he directed. The cast includes Terence Morgan as Adam Beauchamp, Ronald Howard as John Bray, Fred Clark as Alexander King, Jeanne Roland as Annette Dubois, George Pastell as Hashmi Bey and Jack Gwillim as Sir Giles Dalrymple, with a total of thirty-five credited performers.

Running eighty minutes, the film received modest ratings from viewers, sitting at 5.6 out of 10 on IMDb from around four thousand votes and 5.5 out of 10 on TMDB from fewer than a hundred. Those figures point to a lukewarm reception rather than a strong one, consistent with a mid-budget British horror production of its period.
