What's left behind the scenes

The original title of the film can be translated as «Autopsy of an Unknown Woman».
The names John Doe and Jane Doe are a legal term in English law used to denote an unknown or anonymous party in a legal case, often a plaintiff. Later, the term transitioned into medicine, where it is used to refer to an unnamed corpse or unknown patient.
Director André Øvredal was inspired to make a horror film after watching "The Conjuring." He called his agents and told them they should try to find a good horror script. A month later, a script was found.
Martin Sheen was initially cast in the role of Tommy, but he had to withdraw due to scheduling conflicts.
The song playing throughout the film is "Let the Sunshine In" performed by Pebbles.
Stephen King named this film his favorite horror film of 2016.
In an interview, the director admitted that his favorite scene in the film was in the elevator, when the main characters discuss the death of the mother. And the scene he was most proud of as a director was the moment the symbols were revealed under Jane Doe's skin.
When Emma is first shown (in the hallway near the morgue), she is wearing tights. When she enters the morgue, her legs are bare.
After Jane Doe’s body is brought into the morgue on a gurney, Emma leaves. In the scene where Emma’s car drives away, it is visible that the road is blocked. There is no room for an ambulance or any other vehicle to pass Emma’s car, and there isn’t enough space to bring the gurney to the building.
