Evilspeak

Evilspeak centres on Stanley Coopersmith, an orphaned cadet at a military academy who is mocked and abused by his fellow students, his instructors and even the school chaplain. While serving a punishment in the chapel crypt, he finds ancient Latin texts and uses his computer to translate them, discovering that they contain instructions for summoning demonic forces. Intending to take revenge on those who torment him, he puts the rituals to use.

Eric Weston directed the film and wrote the screenplay with Joseph Garofalo; Weston also produced it with Sylvio Tabet. It was Weston's second feature as director, following his 1978 debut The HYPNOTIST, and it was released in the United States in August 1981. Clint Howard plays Stanley, with R. G. Armstrong as Sarge, Joe Cortese as Reverend Jameson, Claude Earl Jones as Coach, Haywood Nelson as Kowalski and Don Stark as Bubba.

The film mixes horror with the technology-themed science fiction then in fashion. Its audience scores are modest and closely matched: on IMDb it holds 5.7 out of 10 from roughly 5,600 votes, while on TMDB it has 5.3 out of 10 from about 122 votes. A critics' rating of 5.1 out of 10 from 14 reviews puts professional assessment close to the audience verdict.
