Led Zeppelin - The Song Remains the Same

The Song Remains the Same captures Led Zeppelin on stage at Madison Square Garden in New York, drawing on three nights of concerts filmed in July 1973 during the band's tour of the United States. Between performances, the film cuts away to backstage moments with the group and to surreal fantasy sequences meant to represent the inner visions of each member. The set includes live versions of songs such as "Black Dog," "Dazed and Confused," "Stairway to Heaven," "Whole Lotta Love," "The Song Remains the Same" and "Rain Song."

The film was directed by Joe Massot, whose earlier work was Wonderwall, and by Peter Clifton, who also wrote the screenplay; it came between Massot's Wonderwall and Space Riders. Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Bonham and John Paul Jones appear as themselves, with Peter Grant as the band's manager. A soundtrack album of the same name was issued around the film's New York premiere in October 1976, and a DVD followed in 1999.
