Short description
A pair of men try to perform the dangerous "triple" in their trapeze act. Problems arise when the duo is made into a trio following the addition of a sexy female performer.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Burt Lancaster (1913-1994) was 41 years old at the time of filming, and he performed all the trapeze stunts himself, except for one (before starting his film career, he was a circus acrobat). Lancaster insisted on performing a triple jump on the trapeze himself, however Eddie Ward, a technical consultant from the Ringling Brothers Circus, was unsure if this was advisable and, during the first weeks of filming, replaced Lancaster altogether. Eventually, director Carol Reed (1906-1976) hired Nick Cravat (1912-1994) – a circus performer, actor, and stuntman – to perform the stunts.
  • During filming, Gina Lollobrigida’s stunt double fell from a height of 12 meters, broke her spine, and soon died.
