Surf's Up 2: WaveMania

Surf's Up 2: WaveMania follows young penguin surfer Cody Maverick, who joins forces with a famous group of surfing penguins known as The Hang Five. Together with his friends Chicken Joe and Lani, Cody sets out for a remote and dangerous stretch of ocean said to hold the biggest waves on the planet. Along the way, the group has to learn to work as a team if they are to reach the spot and survive its challenges.

The film is a Canadian-American animated comedy directed by Henry Yu from a screenplay by Abdul Williams, produced by Michelle Wong. It continues the story begun in the earlier Surf's Up film, with Jeremy Shada voicing Cody, Jon Heder as Chicken Joe and Melissa Sturm as Lani. The voice cast also draws on professional wrestling performers, including John Cena, Mark Calaway and Paul Levesque, reflecting the involvement of WWE Studios alongside Sony Pictures Animation and Rainmaker Entertainment. It runs 84 minutes.

Released in January 2017, the film received a weak reception. On IMDb it holds a rating of 4.4 from roughly 3,800 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 5.9 from around 309 votes. The two audiences differ noticeably, with TMDB users judging it considerably more kindly than IMDb voters, though neither score points to a widely admired follow-up.
