Female Perversions

Female Perversions centres on Evelyn Stephens, a successful attorney with her sights set on a judgeship. Her professional ambition sits alongside a private life of excess and casual encounters with both men and women, and behind her controlled, stylish surface lie disturbing dreams and memories. When her sister Madelyn, a kleptomaniac, is arrested, Evelyn travels to her town to help her, and the two become tangled in long-suppressed conflicts. Staying in her sister's flat, Evelyn also meets a young girl struggling with her own emerging femininity.

The film is a German-American co-production directed by Susan Streitfeld, who wrote the screenplay with Julie Hébert; Mindy Affrime produced. Tilda Swinton plays Evelyn, with Amy Madigan as Madelyn, and Karen Sillas, Frances Fisher, Laila Robins and Clancy Brown among the supporting cast. Streitfeld's drama blends elements of romance and thriller across its 117-minute running time, and it remains the feature for which she is best known.

On IMDb, the film holds a rating of 5.4 from roughly 3,100 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 5.1 from 65 votes, indicating modest and limited audience approval. A critics' rating of 6.5 from 21 reviews places it somewhat higher among reviewers than among general viewers.
