Bluebeard

Set in Paris, this crime thriller follows the terror caused by a serial killer who strangles young women and leaves their bodies in the Seine. While the city lives in fear of the murderer, a seamstress named Lucille meets Gaston Morrell, a puppeteer and artist. Morrell creates puppets based on women he has known and invites Lucille to collaborate with him. However, as Lucille enters his circle, she and others discover that Morrell hides a dangerous side to his personality.

Directed by Edgar G. Ulmer, the film was released in 1944. It is the third production in a sequence of six films directed by Ulmer, following The Black Cat and Isle of Forgotten Sins. The movie was produced by PRC with a screenplay by Pierre Gendron and stars John Carradine as Gaston Morrell and Jean Parker as Lucille. The supporting cast includes Nils Asther, Ludwig Stössel, George Pembroke, and Teala Loring.

The film received a rating of 7.4/10 from 13 reviews by critics, which is higher than the scores provided by general audiences. On IMDb, the movie holds a 5.9/10 rating based on 2,300 votes, while on TMDB it has a 5.5/10 rating from 53 votes.
