• The original title of the film is "Bobby Deerfield."
• Before filming this movie, Al Pacino didn't know how to drive. To film scenes where his character drives a racing car, he had to take driving lessons.
• In the racing scenes, Al Pacino was doubled by José Carlos Pace (1944-1977), a Brazilian racing driver. He died in a plane crash in early 1977 at the age of 32. The film is dedicated to his memory.
• Preparing for the role of the ailing Lillian, actress Marta Keller would wake up at 6 a.m. every morning, eat a lettuce leaf, go to thermal baths, drink a glass of carrot juice, ride a bicycle, and play tennis for an hour. Sometimes she would play a second set of tennis until 9 a.m. Keller lost almost 5 kilograms.
