Eddie Krumble makes his living as a paid audience member, filling seats and clapping on cue for television infomercials and talk shows. When a late-night host turns Eddie's unusual line of work into on-air material, Eddie is pushed from the background into sudden public attention. The resulting rush of fame unsettles the quiet life he has built, including a new relationship with Judy, who works at a gas station. A comedy about a man who is paid to react for a living, and what happens when he is the one being watched.
The film is written and directed by Dito Montiel, the seventh feature he directed and the sixth since his debut with A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints. It stars Ed Helms, Amanda Seyfried, Tracy Morgan, Adam Levine, Russell Peters and P.J. Byrne, among a credited cast of forty-four, and was produced by Helms, Montiel and Robin Schorr. Released in early 2018, it runs 89 minutes.
Audience response has been modest: on IMDb it holds 5.2 out of 10 from around 9,000 votes, and on TMDB 4.9 from roughly 285 votes. The lower turnout on TMDB suggests a limited reach beyond the film's initial audience. A critics' rating of 4.2 from 25 reviews places it below the audience scores, indicating a more negative professional response than that of viewers.
