The Molly Maguires
Short description
Set in Pennsylvania in 1876, this historical drama follows a secret society of Irish coal miners known as the Molly Maguires. To combat exploitation and harsh treatment by their employers, the group uses sabotage and violence to demand better living and working conditions. The conflict intensifies when a detective is hired to infiltrate the organization and identify its leaders. As the agent gains the trust of the miners, he begins to question his own loyalties.
Directed by Martin Ritt, this film was his fifth feature, following projects such as The Spy Who Came In from the Cold and Hombre. The movie features a cast led by Sean Connery and Richard Harris, with supporting roles played by Samantha Eggar, Frank Finlay, Anthony Zerbe, and Bethel Leslie. The screenplay was written by Walter Bernstein, who also served as a producer alongside Ritt.
