Halloween

Set forty years after the events of the original Halloween, this film follows Laurie Strode, the one victim who escaped Michael Myers on that October night in 1978. Michael has spent the intervening decades locked in a psychiatric institution, while Laurie has organized her entire life around the expectation that he will eventually return. That anticipation shapes everything she does, including how she raised her daughter, Karen. When Michael is moved and manages to get free, he heads back toward Haddonfield, and Laurie finally gets the confrontation she has been waiting for.

The film discards the continuity of the earlier sequels and treats itself as a direct continuation of John Carpenter's original. David Gordon Green directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Danny McBride and Jeff Fradley. It is the tenth of fourteen films Green has directed, arriving between Stronger and Halloween Kills. Jamie Lee Curtis returns as Laurie, with Judy Greer as Karen, Andi Matichak as Allyson, and James Jude Courtney and Nick Castle both playing Michael, known in the credits as The Shape. John Carpenter, Bill Block and Jason Blum produced.

Made for about ten million dollars, the film took roughly 260 million worldwide, a large multiple of its cost that signalled strong commercial demand for the series' return. On IMDb it holds 6.5 from about 186,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.6 from over 5,000, while its critics' rating stands slightly higher at 6.8 from 386 reviews.
