Monica Rivers runs a travelling circus that has fallen on hard times, and she is determined to pull the troupe back into profit. When a series of violent deaths strikes the performers, the publicity that follows draws bigger crowds, and the question of who is responsible hangs over the big top. Suspicion falls on Monica herself as much as on anyone else, while the arrival of a handsome trapeze artist named Frank Hawkins complicates her relationships with the people around her, including her former lover and her teenage daughter.
Joan Crawford leads the cast as Monica, with Ty Hardin, Diana Dors, Michael Gough, Judy Geeson and Robert Hardy among the principals. Jim O'Connolly directed, working from a screenplay by Herman Cohen and Aben Kandel, and Cohen produced through Herman Cohen Productions. The film was O'Connolly's first feature as director, followed two years later by The Valley of Gwangi, and it was made in the United Kingdom.
Released in November 1967 and running 96 minutes, the film mixes crime, drama, horror, mystery and thriller elements. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.4 from around 3,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 5.7 from a much smaller pool of voters. The two scores are close, suggesting a modest but not hostile reception among those who have seen it.
