Georgy Girl is a British comedy-drama about Georgy, a young woman who feels out of place next to her glamorous and self-absorbed roommate Meredith. The middle-aged employer of Georgy's father, James Leamington, takes a romantic interest in her, but she is reluctant to accept his advances. Her life grows more complicated when Meredith becomes pregnant and largely leaves Georgy to care for the baby, while Georgy develops feelings for Meredith's boyfriend, Jos.
The film was directed by Silvio Narizzano, whose only other credited feature in the facts is Blue, released two years later. The screenplay was written by Margaret Forster and Peter Nichols. Lynn Redgrave plays Georgy, with James Mason as James Leamington, Alan Bates as Jos Jones, and Charlotte Rampling as Meredith. The supporting cast includes Bill Owen and Clare Kelly. It runs 99 minutes and was released in August 1966.
Georgy Girl holds a 6.9 rating on IMDb from about 4,600 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.2 from a much smaller base of 53 votes. A critics' rating of 7.1 from 11 reviews places it somewhat above the audience scores recorded on IMDb and TMDB.
