Short description
Set in a deprived area of Glasgow around 1968, this drama follows three teenage brothers. While the eldest siblings navigate the challenges of adolescence, the story centers on the youngest brother, Lex. After accidentally shooting the leader of a local gang, Lex begins a destructive decline. His arrogance and immaturity leave him unable to grasp the consequences of his crimes for himself and those around him.
The film was directed by Gillies MacKinnon, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Billy MacKinnon. This was the first of four films directed by MacKinnon, followed by Hideous Kinky, Pure, and The Last Bus. The cast features Iain Robertson as Lex, with Joseph McFadden and Steven Duffy playing his brothers, Alan and Bobby. Laura Fraser, Garry Sweeney, and Clare Higgins also appear in the production.
Produced with a budget of 4 million USD, the movie earned 17 million USD at the worldwide box office. It is well-regarded by viewers, holding an 8.1 rating on IMDb from 766,000 votes, though it has a lower score of 6.5 on TMDB from 31 votes. Film critics gave the movie an 8.5 rating based on 98 reviews, which is slightly higher than the general audience score on IMDb.
