Alice Kinney, recently separated from her husband, moves back to Los Angeles with her two daughters into the house her father left behind, hoping to restart her life as an interior designer. On a night out for her fortieth birthday she meets three young filmmakers, Teddy, Harry and George, who need somewhere to stay, and she lets them move into her guest house. The arrangement unsettles the household, and a romance develops between Alice and one of the men just as her ex-husband reappears wanting to return.
Home Again was released in 2017 and runs 97 minutes. It is a comedy-drama with romantic elements, produced by Waverly Films and Black Bicycle Entertainment on a budget of about 12 million dollars, and it took roughly 27 million dollars worldwide. Reese Witherspoon plays Alice; the three boarders are played by Nat Wolff, Jon Rudnitsky and Pico Alexander, with Lake Bell and Reid Scott also in the cast. Hallie Meyers-Shyer wrote and directed it, her first feature, made with producer Nancy Meyers before Meyers-Shyer directed Goodrich in 2024.
On IMDb the film holds 5.8 out of 10 from around 37,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.1 out of 10 from about 1,255 votes. A critics' rating of 4.8 out of 10 from 138 reviews places it below both audience scores.
