A washed-up talent agent is approached by a gangster just out of prison, who wants him to turn his girlfriend into a singing sensation within six weeks. There is one condition attached to the job: the agent is not to lay a hand on her. The trouble is that the woman is a striking blonde whose looks make the assignment even harder than it already is, and her singing voice is a serious problem of its own. As he tries to build a career for her, he runs into resistance from a rival manager determined to block him.
Frank Tashlin directed, produced and co-wrote the film with Herbert Baker. It came after Son of Paleface and Artists and Models in his directing career, which later continued with titles including Cinderfella and The Alphabet Murders. Tom Ewell plays the agent, Jayne Mansfield has the title role of Jerri Jordan, and Edmond O'Brien appears as the gangster Murdock, with Henry Jones, Julie London as herself, and Barry Gordon among the credited cast of twenty.
Released in December 1956 by 20th Century Fox, the comedy and music film runs 98 minutes and was made for about 1 million dollars, going on to take roughly 6 million worldwide. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.8 from around 4,300 votes, while on TMDB its average is 6.3 from a much smaller number of votes.
