Sodom and Gomorrah

Lot, a Hebrew leader and nephew of the patriarch Abraham, brings his people to a fertile valley beside Sodom and Gomorrah, two wealthy cities ruled by the ruthless Queen Bera and her brother Astaroth. After Lot orders a dam destroyed to keep the attacking Helamites from overrunning the cities, the queen grants his people land in Sodom as a reward. Life in the shadow of the cities soon erodes the Hebrews' own customs, and the growing corruption sets Lot on a collision with his hosts.

Robert Aldrich directed this Italian, American and French co-production, the seventh of the seventeen films he directed, made between What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? and 4 for Texas. Hugo Butler and Giorgio Prosperi wrote the screenplay, and Goffredo Lombardo produced. Stewart Granger plays Lot, with Pier Angeli as Ildith, Stanley Baker as Astaroth, Rossana Podestà as Shuah, Rik Battaglia as Melchor and Giacomo Rossi Stuart as Ishmael among a credited cast of 39. The film runs 148 minutes and took about 5 million dollars worldwide. Audiences rate it modestly: 5.7 from around 2,400 votes on IMDb and 5.3 from a much smaller number on TMDB, while critics' reviews average 5.3.
