Step Sisters

Jamilah is a college student who seems to have everything mapped out. She leads a Black sorority, serves as captain of its step dance crew and acts as a liaison to the dean. Her plan is to move on to Harvard Law School, but a scandal involving a hard-partying white sorority, Sigma Beta Beta, puts her path in doubt. The dean asks Jamilah to restore the school's reputation by teaching the unruly SBB members to step, with the added goal of competing in a major dance contest. As the group struggles through rehearsals, Jamilah's Harvard ambitions hang in the balance.

Charles Stone III directed the comedy, which was written by Chuck Hayward and produced by Lena Waithe, Jeffrey Soros and Simon Horsman. It arrived in 2018, the same year as Stone's Uncle Drew and the fifth of the six features he has directed, following Drumline, Paid in Full and Mr. 3000. Megalyn Echikunwoke plays Jamilah, with Eden Sher, Alessandra Torresani, Gage Golightly, Matt McGorry and Naturi Naughton among the twenty credited cast members.
