Fireworks

Set in Moshimo, Japan, this story follows a group of schoolboys who debate whether fireworks appear round or flat depending on the angle from which they are viewed. As the town prepares for its annual festival, the boys seek to find the answer. Meanwhile, a student named Nazuna Oikawa struggles with the divorce of her parents and considers running away with one of the boys.

Directed by Nobuyuki Takeuchi and Akiyuki Simbo, the film is the seventh entry in a chronological list of works by Simbo. The voice cast features Suzu Hirose, Masaki Suda, Mamoru Miyano, Shintaro Asanuma, Toshiyuki Toyonaga, and Yuki Kaji. The production involved TOHO, Aniplex, East Japan Marketing & Communications, and KADOKAWA, with a screenplay written by Hitoshi One.

The movie earned 27 million USD at the worldwide box office. Audience reception is mixed, with a rating of 5.6/10 on IMDb from 4,400 votes and a 6.6/10 on TMDB from 374 votes. These scores are higher than the rating provided by film critics, which stands at 4.9/10 based on 29 reviews.
