Mr & Mme Adelman is a French-Belgian comedy-drama about a couple whose relationship spans decades. Sarah, a literature graduate from a modest Jewish background, meets Victor, an aspiring writer from a conservative Catholic family, in Paris in 1971. What begins as an intense attraction becomes a long shared life marked by his growing literary success, her role as his first reader and muse, and the tensions that come with ambition, routine and infidelity. A journalist and a biographer later prompt Sarah to look back over the years the two spent together.
The film was directed by Nicolas Bedos, who co-wrote the screenplay with Doria Tillier, and both take the lead roles as Victor and Sarah. The supporting cast includes Denis Podalydès, Pierre Arditi, Zabou Breitman and Julien Boisselier, among roughly sixty credited performers. It was produced by Nadia Khamlichi, Adrian Politowski and François Kraus, with Canal+, Chaocorp, Ciné+ and Orange Studio involved, on a budget of about six million dollars.
Mr & Mme Adelman was the first feature Bedos directed, released in 2017 and followed by La Belle Époque, OSS 117: From Africa with Love and Masquerade. It runs 120 minutes. On TMDB it holds a rating of 7.5 out of 10 from around 470 votes.
