The Tall T

Pat Brennan, a former ranch foreman who has struck out on his own, loses his horse in a bet and sets off on foot. A stagecoach picks him up, carrying a newly married couple: Doretta Mims, daughter of a wealthy mine owner, and her husband Willard. At the next stop, three outlaws seize the coach and its passengers. Their leader, Frank Usher, learns who Doretta's father is and decides to hold her for ransom, and the group waits out a tense stretch of hours for his demands to be answered. The film is a western based on a story by Elmore Leonard, and it was adapted for the screen by Burt Kennedy.

Budd Boetticher directed, with Harry Joe Brown producing. It was Boetticher's second western in the run of films he made with Randolph Scott, following 7 Men from Now and preceding Decision at Sundown the same year, with Ride Lonesome and Comanche Station coming later in the decade. Scott plays Brennan, Richard Boone plays Usher, Maureen O'Sullivan plays Doretta, and Arthur Hunnicutt, Skip Homeier and Henry Silva appear among the captors and travelers.

The film runs 78 minutes. On IMDb it holds a rating of 7.3 from roughly 6,900 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 7 from about 154 votes, a smaller sample. A critics' rating of 8.6 from eight reviews places it higher than either audience figure.
