Lili

Lili Daurier, a young French orphan with nowhere to go, is taken in by a traveling circus after she is left stranded in an unfamiliar town. She develops feelings for Marc, a charming magician who already has a complicated romantic life and treats her as a child. Lonely, she confides in four puppets at a carnival booth, unaware at first that a puppeteer is behind them. Her singing draws a crowd, giving her a place in the troupe and a new act, while the withdrawn puppeteer Paul gradually becomes more important to her than the magician she first adored.

Charles Walters directed the film, which sits between Summer Stock (1950) and High Society (1956) among the five features he made in the order listed. Helen Deutsch wrote the screenplay, and Edwin H.
