Martin (Hache)

Martín is an Argentine film director who has lived in Madrid for over twenty years, having left his homeland and his former wife behind. His nineteen-year-old son, known to everyone as Hache, still lives in Buenos Aires, where he drifts without studying or working. After five years apart, father and son meet again when Hache suffers a drug overdose. His mother suggests he go to Madrid to live with his father. There, two other people share Martín's life: Alicia, his much younger lover, who has grown tired of a man unable or unwilling to commit, and Dante, an actor who is his closest friend and who lives on the edge. Martín surrounds himself with passionate people while keeping his own feelings locked away, afraid of the pain that attachment brings. Hache's arrival forces him to confront the distance between them.

Adolfo Aristarain directed and co-wrote the film with Kathy Saavedra, and produced it with Gerardo Herrero. It came before his 2004 film Roma in his directing career. Federico Luppi plays Martín, with Juan Diego Botto as Hache, Eusebio Poncela as Dante and Cecilia Roth as Alicia. It is an Argentine-Spanish co-production running 134 minutes.

On IMDb the film holds a rating of 7.6 from around 5,000 votes, and on TMDB 7.5 from roughly 110 votes, indicating a solid reputation with a comparatively small international audience.
