Wolfwalkers
Short description
Robyn, a young apprentice hunter, travels with her father to Ireland, where he has been charged with wiping out the last wolf pack. The pair arrive in a walled town ruled by the Lord Protector, who declares the surrounding forest and its wolves the enemy. Sent to scout the woods, Robyn instead meets Mebh, a free-spirited girl who belongs to a nomadic tribe said to turn into wolves after dark. The friendship that grows between them pushes Robyn to question her father's mission and to confront what she herself is becoming.
The film is directed by Tomm Moore, following his features The Secret of Kells (2009) and Song of the Sea (2014), and by Ross Stewart, from a screenplay by Will Collins. Honor Kneafsey voices Robyn and Eva Whittaker voices Mebh, with Sean Bean, Simon McBurney, Tommy Tiernan and Maria Doyle Kennedy among the voice cast. Made across Ireland, China, Luxembourg, the United States and France on a budget of about ten million dollars, it returned roughly one million dollars at the worldwide box office.
On IMDb it holds 8 out of 10 from around 45,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 8.2 out of 10 from a much smaller tally of 1,453 votes. The film critics' rating stands at 8.7 out of 10 from 174 reviews, higher than either audience measure, indicating strong critical appreciation alongside solid viewer approval.
